Complex Tree Removal Near Powerlines
Corymbiatorelliana
Byron Bay, NSW
The Cadagi was overhanging the top of the client's house and within minimum clearance distance of HV and LV powerlines.
Clearance pruning from service companies had caused excessive lateral growth to the north side of the tree resulting in the canopy becoming unbalanced and unevenly distributed.
Given the risk of failure, size & weight of the timber along with the house being an exposed target underneath - the tree was assessed as being too hazardous and no longer suitable for the location.
The tree was safely removed in a day.
Crain Assisted Tree Removal Near Powerlines
Euclayptus Grandis
Ewingsdale, Byron Bay, NSW
The tree had been destroyed by a severe hail storm. Golf ball sized hail had defoliated all the limbs, removed its leaves and destroyed the cambium (bark) so no other leaves could grow on the existing structure.
The crane assist removal was completed successfully over 33 KV, high voltage powerlines.
A crane was required for the removal because of the limited space on the ground and the consequence of breaching limits of approach to the power.

Removal of 400–500-year-old Tree Near Historically Significant Site
Lophostemon confertus
Laverne’s Gap Weir, Wilsons Creek, NSW
The job involved the removal of a 400–500-year-old Brush Box. This tree had outlived its useful life expectancy (ULE) and become senescent in its growth habit. Upper sections of the canopy still retained foliage however the tree had declined over time with the ingress of major decay. Two- to three-foot-deep decay pockets were detected at the first major fork or union.
As the tree was located in an environmentally sensitive area it was important not to damage any of the understory. The Governing Environmental Body employed a biologist to visit the site prior to the work to mark all species of environmental significance.
Further considerations were made to ensure no damage would occur to the main water supply to Byron, Ballina, Lismore and Mullumbimby.
There was an access tunnel underneath the site which was used for mining carts 100 years ago that is of historical significance. One of the leading hands from Ralph Water was onsite to monitor the integrity of the tunnel, before, during and after the job.
All timber and block wood had to be controlled and lowered safely to insure no damaging impacts affected this tunnel.

In partnership with Greening Australia & Landcare Victoria - Tree Needs arborists are helping to install 300 glider nest boxes in Eastern Victoria after the 2019-20 bushfires destroyed nearly 30% of the Greater Glider habitat. The nest boxes act as a substitute for tree hollows that that were damaged in the fires and are an important step to protect the Glider's diminishing population.
