Building Application Arborist Tree Reports

We provide highly detailed arborist reports, tree health inspections and tree risk assessments for residential, government and commercial customers. Building planning applications often need to be accompanied by an arborist report if there are trees or vegetation on site.

We are qualified arborists and can assess trees on building development sites and near your home for bushfire prevention clearing or tree pruning permits.

Council Tree Pruning and Removal Permits

In most circumstances you will need a permit from your local council to remove or prune back trees on your property.  Local councils often have strict tree protection laws that mean you will need to get their approval before doing any major work on your trees. We can provide you with an arborist tree report to submit in your local council permit application.

Cost of an arborist report

The cost of an arborist report will vary depending on a number of factors; the size, location, type of tree along with the type of report that is required will all impact the cost but we are happy to provide you with a quote based on your exact job. If you engage Tree Needs to do the required tree works the cost of the Arborist report will normally be absorbed.

Tree Management Plans

A Tree Needs arborist report also helps with the long-term management and care of your trees. We provide expert advice and practical recommendations about your tree when producing our arborist reports and will help you with the long-term care of your trees.

Arboricultural Impact Assessment

These are required by Council, accompanying a Development Application (DA). The Impact Assessment provides analysis of how the proposed development will affect the trees, including encroachment into TPZs and potential damage to tree health and structure.

A Tree Protection Plan (TPP) or Tree Protection Management Plan (TPMP

A document outlining measures to safeguard trees during development, construction, or site modifications. It's a crucial part of development application, ensuring trees are protected from damage during construction, grading, or soil disturbance.

These plans are typically required by local responsible authority (council) and must be prepared by a qualified arborist AQF Level 5.

Tree Needs are tree experts and are qualified to produce Arborist Reports suitable for official council applications and other government business.

Arboricultural health assessment report

An Arboricultural health assessment report, also known as an arborist report, is a formal document by a qualified arborist detailing a tree's health, structural integrity, and potential risks, often required for development applications, tree removal permits, or general property management.

The report includes a visual inspection of the tree's leaves, trunk, branches, and roots, along with an assessment of the surrounding environment, to diagnose problems and provide a management plan for the tree.

tree management plan (TMP)

A tree management plan (TMP) is a document that details how to protect, maintain, or remove trees on a site, often required for construction projects or public areas to prevent damage and ensure safety. It includes strategies like delineating tree protection zones (TPZs), specifying allowed and prohibited activities during development, outlining pruning and soil management techniques, and addressing the removal of hazardous trees. TMPs work in conjunction with an arborist's report (which assesses tree health and impact) to guide projects and meet council requirements.

A vegetation removal application is an official request made to a local council or state authority for permission to remove, lop, or destroy native vegetation on a property.

In partnership with Greening Australia & Landcare Victoria - Tree Needs arborists are helping to install 300 glider nest boxes in Eastern Victoria after the 2019-20 bushfires destroyed nearly 30% of the Greater Glider habitat. The nest boxes act as a substitute for tree hollows that that were damaged in the fires and are an important step to protect the Glider's diminishing population.
